How to brief your tailor for unstitched cloth
Unstitched cloth gives you the freedom to design exactly what you want. A good brief helps your tailor deliver it.
Bring a reference
Pictures say more than words. Bring photos of the neckline, sleeve, length and silhouette you like. Show what you like and also what you do not.
Agree the details
Talk through the neckline, sleeve length, hem, side slits and trouser style. For dupattas, decide on edging and finishing. For fabrics such as silk and chiffon, ask about lining and interlining.
Share the cloth properly
Give the tailor the whole piece, and tell them the fabric and care needs. Delicate cloth such as silk and organza should be cut by someone experienced with it.
Plan a fitting
Where you can, ask for a fitting before the final stitching. Small adjustments at this stage make a big difference, and it is much easier to take in than let out.
